With spacedrop organized by SDF and Keybase, one of the most frequently asked questions is
"How do I withdraw Lumens into Bitcoin?"
You can do it following the steps:
- Go to the "Wallet" tab in your Keybase app
- Choose "Send to a Stellar address"
- Enter your Bitcoin address followed by special suffix *apay.io
- Verify that unique memo has been generated and pre-filled for your Bitcoin address
- Now spot the little message at the top "This person accepts assets other than XLM" and click "Send other assets". It allows you to send the so-called "Path payment" on stellar, which converts XLM to BTC on the fly at the best rate available on DEX.
- Pick BTC at the top and XLM at the bottom
- Figure out the amount of BTC you can get by adjusting the amount and clicking "Calculate"
- You won't be able to get too close, because Stellar requires you to keep a couple of XLM on your balance and rate keeps changing.
- Make sure the BTC amount you get is above 0.0002 BTC, which is the minimum withdrawal we process and be aware of 0.1% + 0.0001 BTC withdrawal fee.
- Make sure not to override "public memo" field, because we use it to identify the user, so leave it as is.
- Once you're happy you can click "Send". If it fails (sometimes it does, because the exchange rate has changed, and your XLM balance is not enough to buy that amount of BTC anymore) you can just retry.
Hopefully, it worked. If it didn't or instructions look too complicated - you can create an account on stellarx.com, send there your XLM, exchange to BTC issued by apay and use their withdrawal process to get BTC.
